Asbury Service Project

Asbury Service Project is Asbury UMC’s chapter of the Appalachia Service Project (ASP).
ASP provides opportunities for Christian missions through a ministry of home repair and rehabilitation and new home construction both locally and in Central Appalachia.

What is it?

ASP is a youth ministry made of up to 40 youth and 18 adults who help make homes warmer, safer and drier in the Appalachia region. Asbury’s ASP ministry begins with events in the fall and offers fundraising, service and other group events throughout the year as we prepare for our trip in June. The Asbury ASP ministry began in 1973, making us one of the longest tenured groups in the country!

Where is it?

Teams could go anywhere in the five state Central Appalachia area- Kentucky, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee. ASP headquarters assigns the location in the spring of each year. Asbury’s group leaves on a Saturday morning and returns home the following Sunday (9-day trip)

Who can go?

Any youth who is in the 9th-12th grade and demonstrates a commitment to the project through participation in the fundraisers and skill sessions

Youth

Adults

Any adult who actively participates in all activities, demonstrates a loving, caring attitude toward our youth, and a commitment to the ASP principles.
